“Walileta...mapipa yaliyoshika moto…
- Kara Goucher akimhoji Des Linden kwenye podikasti yao mpya Nobody Asked Us with Des & Kara. Kara anamwuliza Des juu ya kitabu kipya cha Kara, Choosing to Run: A Memoir, kilichochapishwa hivi karibuni.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
[Des talking about her customer service job at Moosejaw while training for Boston.]
"That [Moosejaw] was a really fun place to work and I didn't put this story in there [her book], but I'm going to tell it because I love it:
"Before Houston...2011...it was the Christmas season and the power went out there…--we did email customer service--...and so they [Moosejaw] set up all these generators inside…
“and they brought in...these barrel heaters...:
“It was...an open flame in this building [both laughing]...
“And they [Moosejaw] would power up the all the computers and be like, "Start writing emails!"...
“So we are replying to these customers that are just pissed because...their Denali jacket's not going to make it on time and they're [replying] "You've ruined Christmas!" and…[Des and Kara laughing]...
“We had to work around the clock [during that period].…
"I would typically work...11 to 5 in the afternoon.... [And then] you're leaving the office and the manager would be like, 'Hey, can you come back at midnight to 5 in the morning?' And you... couldn't say “No,” so, you would come back: midnight to 5 in the morning.
“I was doing that [schedule]... around the clock before that Houston half race, and then I raced really well...I was like, 'Thank God I didn't ...totally screw it up....'"
Kara: "...I love this part of your story because…when you got second at the Boston Marathon--if you had told me 'Well, Des has to get back home because she has to go to work'…I would have been like 'Bullshit! Right? There's no way! [Laughing.] She just got second [place] at Boston! She doesn't work a job like that.' And so...it really just opened my eyes to just how gritty you are...."(23:25)
