KISWAHILI
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
“Let me explain why I have employed the term ‘logotherapy’ as the name for my theory. Logos is a Greek word which denotes ‘meaning’ [or purpose]. Logotherapy...focuses on the meaning of human existence as well as on [one’s] search for such a meaning.
“According to logotherapy, this striving to find a meaning in one’s life is the primary motivational force [of humanity]. That is why I speak of a will to meaning in contrast to the pleasure principle…on which Freudian psychoanalysis is centered, as well as in contrast to the will to power [inferiority complex] on which Adlerian psychology…is focused.…
“[One’s] search for meaning…is unique and specific in that it must and can be fulfilled by [one] alone; only then does it achieve a significance which will satisfy [one’s] own will to meaning.”
- Viktor E. Frankl (1905-1997), was an Austrian psychologist, Holocaust survivor, author, and professor

I'm glad you're translating passages from "Man's Search for Meaning," Mmerikani. It's an important book and a compelling read. I don't know if Frankl got everything right, but he gives us all much to think about. I don't have the right kind of memory to go around quoting authors, but I do occasionally quote Viktor Frankl writing, "For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue..."
Is there a collective "search for meaning" as well as [one's]?
