Welcome to Mmerikani’s Substack! (Swahili & English)

My very humble Substack consists of sourced, edifying quotes in a dual-language format (English and Swahili).

(Many great quotations shared online do not include sourcing.)

I imagine my audience to be:

  • anyone who enjoys encouraging and thought-provoking quotes (with sourcing!);

  • anyone learning, or interested in, Swahili (Kiswahili); or

  • East African students who may be studying English (Kiingereza).

The quotes are typically brief book highlights gathered from non-fiction books or material I am currently reading. They would be ones that spoke to me as motivating or insightful, and ones that celebrate and amplify our human potential.

A concurrent purpose of my Substack is to show the beauty and capability of Swahili. Any topic that one could speak about in English, one can speak about in Swahili: be it business, science, health, or technology. Swahili is a modern language and was recently adopted as an official, working language of the African Union (BBC news article here). The United Nations also has a World Kiswahili Day (UNESCO article here).

This Substack is published approximately twice weekly. The posts will range from a single sentence, up to three or so paragraphs. I let the completeness of the thought determine its length.

The subscription will remain free of charge, as I want to make this Substack affordable to readers around the globe.

Here is a sample of what the Swahili language looks like (please forgive my handwriting):

The Archive tab is at the top of the page. Feel free to meander!

If you, or someone you know, would enjoy this sort of Substack, you are warmly invited to Subscribe, to Share, or just to accompany me on this positive vibe, language adventure. Be well!
