What an insightful way to interview people--or get to know people in general. Right now, we hire or promote or choose one another by certifications which certainly say something about stick-to-it-tive-ness (that is an official U.S. Air Force word, lol), but wow, do we miss a whole lot of the person, since certs are available to those with some sort of resources (scholarships or money or nation or what-have-you.)
This idea really clicks with me, actually. I've verbalized before that I am drawn to people "who have been through some things," but may not have been able to articulate the reasoning behind it. This explains the reasoning...very neat!
